Barely four hours had elapsed after the horrific murders had taken place in Tucson, Arizona, before anti-gun Arkansas Times blogger Max Brantley began dancing in the blood of Representative Gabrielle Giffords, hardly allowing time for it to clot. While normal human beings are attempting to grieve over this event, liberal blogger Brantley is using it to emotionally sway opinion, probably before the next-of-kin had been notified.
Brantley is blatantly accusing open carry, the Tea Party and Sarah Palin of instigating this attack, even though he has no proof any of these three pushed accused murderer Jared Loughner to commit murder.
There is no evidence this man was open carrying.
Brantley admitted in his column (after he tries to lead all readers into a mob lynching):
“There is, of course, no way to know if the shooting today was related to gun issues or other hot-button issues that roil Arizona, such as immigration. Or health care.”
But Brantley certainly attempts to make you think this way. He thrills in this event, able to take the murders and form opinion with it. However, guns did not cause this episode, and certainly open carry had nothing to do with it. An evil mind hatched this plot, and he, not open carry is responsible for it. In fact, could Jared Loughner have used other weapons to cause the same terror?
The event Representative Gabrielle Giffords was attending took place in a grocery store parking lot. This parking lot was accessible to any vehicle, and accused killer Loughner used a vehicle for transportation to the event. What if he had used a car or truck to commit these murders? Many people were lined up to talk to Representative Giffords in this parking lot, and a car would have brought terrible carnage if it had been used as a weapon. If that had happened, Max Brantley’s argument about open carry would have been nil. I very much doubt Brantley would go after Arkansas drivers with the same zeal.
Arkansas citizens should recognize Max Brantley for what he is; a rapist of the mind. He uses strong emotional weapons such as the Arizona event to paint open carry as a mass murderer’s tool. Open carry, however, has been a part of America’s heritage since the founding. States such as Vermont have allowed open carry since they were admitted as a state, and have never experienced events such as Arizona did yesterday.
But Max Brantley won’t tell you that.
Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords shot in head
Giffords survived the shooting, contrary to early reports. The shot passed through her head. She survived surgery and a doctor at a hospital news conference said she responded to some commands. At 3 p.m. Little Rock time, she was said to be in ICU under anesthesia in critical condition, but doctors were somewhat hopeful about recovery in their remarks. The Pima County sheriff's office saidsix people were killed and 18 wounded, but the number dead and wounded remains somewhat unclear. CNN says one of those killed was a federal judge, John Roll (the link outlines threats he's endured in the past), and a 9-year-old child also reportedly was among the dead as well as a member or members of Giffords' staff....(rest of article)
